Week 2, lesson 5 Letter formation - "d" - Phonics Phase 2 - Worksheet
English Resource Description
In the second week's fifth lesson of the 60 All Aboard Phonics Phase 2 programme, students focus on the formation of the letter "d" and the phoneme /g/. The objective of the lesson is for children to learn and recognise the /g/ sound, which is introduced through an engaging character - the Goat in a Boat. The session begins with a 'Quickdash' activity, where children quickly review flashcards of previously learned graphemes and pictophones, shouting out the corresponding sounds and names.
The teaching segment features a story about the Goat in a Boat, who dons waterproof gear to rescue those in trouble, with the /g/ sound emphasised through the goat's rowing actions. Children are encouraged to mime the rowing action while making the /g/ sound to strengthen their understanding. In the practice phase, students learn how to form the grapheme by finger writing in the air or on a peer's back, and they also match object flashcards to word flashcards by decoding and blending words like "pig," "tin," "map," and "pan." The lesson culminates with children applying their knowledge by writing the grapheme on mini whiteboards and engaging in extension activities such as playdough and sand writing to reinforce their learning.
